Happy New Year’s ! It truly has been great so far- I’ve spent half the day with my five year old son watching the Tournament of Roses Parade and playing with Playmobil Roman armies. So far I can only feel warmth in this new calendar- a nice day without anything to give the outward impression that the world is anything but cloistered beneath their own quilts of comfort and abstraction. One of the things I liked about Nova Scotia was that the province shuts down each Sunday-life stops, commerce halts. It is a cause of great comfort, Sundays in Nova Scotia. Life can stop and be lived for one day without it coming to an end, as some deluded consumers fear. I just love holidays that shut everything down- it’s so absolute.
I have much to be thankful for currently- a nice relationship with my soon-to-be ex wife. I bought her her usual hand-made chocolate truffles and Champagne for Christmas- I’ll always do so- some traditions, like the two dozen roses I get for her each anniversary, must and should be kept regardless. I have very fine visits with my son and a great rapport with all of my other children and stepchildren. I even have what my English/Canadian grandmother would call “a bit of brass” or savings-a fairly significant amount- a decided rarity for me. Jobs will come-I can feel it somehow- a creeping optimism that threatens to banish any dark thoughts- at least for the moment. I’ve also discovered that I love my mother-a thing that I haven’t always believed. I loved having Christmas with her- she’s been so kind and understanding since I got out of the hospital-it has redefined our relationship completely.
Happy New Year’s !!
